Day Four of Holiday Viewing

0

So today was definitely a day for animated holiday viewing. Besides the usual suspects of How The Grinch Stole Christmas (original recipe-I do not acknowledge the 21st century versions), Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, Frosty The Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, there was O’ Christmas Tree, which was made in 1993.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

I’ve always loved how Chuck Jones et. al are able to tell a complex but satisfying story in 30 minutes. My main problem with the new versions is that I don’t need the extended backstory they provide to know why the Grinch does what he does and I don’t need them to OD on snark to keep me interested. The premise and the behaviour they show (ex. his stealing the presents and who-hash) is all that I need.

Santa Claus Is Coming to Town

Another in the “you have to handwave some stuff” specials. It seems like the Burgomeister Meisterburgher spends way too much time fighting his war on the crime of possessing toys? He could spend that time improving that sad little Eastern European city of his. A sign reminding the children to pick up their toys would’ve been all right.

I am thinking about Neil Armstrong and I am thinking about Apollo 11

“For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.”

A sad day for humanity. We’ve lost a legend.
